Chapter 8
Oliver's mind went completely blank. It took him a long moment to finally process what he'd just heard.
"She quit? When did she quit? Why didn't I know about this?" he demanded.
Maxwell explained, "Ms. Evans submitted her resignation to HR, and you actually signed off on it. She handed off all her work before she left yesterday and told me the papers would be on your dining table. Maybe you should go check?"
Before Maxwell could finish, Oliver was already rushing downstairs. He spotted the two documents on the table immediately. The words "Divorce Agreement" stabbed him right in the eyes.
He'd always treated Julia as a stand-in, but he'd never actually considered divorcing her. Even if he refused to admit it, something had taken root in his heart for Julia after all these years together.
He had never imagined she would be the one to leave him first.
It felt like someone had wrapped a giant hand around his chest, squeezing so tight he could hardly breathe.
