Chapter 5

Christopher's P.O.V I got to the living room and met Michael pacing round the entire room with a worried look on his face and I badly hoped and prayed that he lost something dear to him but the sudden sad expression he word on his face when he saw me told me that everything was not ok. 'You asked me come Michael and please tell me there is nothing going on" I sighed as he did his very best to look a little bit relaxed but it didn't work. 'It's the council Christopher, they're all here and they would love to have a word with you" Michael added as he pointed to the now opened conference room where the pack council were patiently waiting for me t o join them. 'Do you know why they came or what they want to talk about?" I asked Michael with a worried look on my face as I was not contemplating how I would speak to the council. 'I honestly do not have any idea whatsoever as to why they all came here at such quick notice but trust me when I say that it can't be good news". I took a glance at the council member who all sat round the conference table once more and took a deep breath before walking into the conference room. I swiftly shut the door behind me as our meetings were always behind closed doors and we would normally kick off without the presence of my beta until the eldest council member deemed it fit for him to join us in the meeting. 'Good afternoon everyone" I greeted as I carefully observed the looks on the five Council members who sat before me. 'This is no time for pleasantries Christopher. We all are gathered here for serious business" said the eldest council member as he stared me down in the eyes. I felt every inch of my body stiffen at the sound of his voice but I couldn't let them sense my fear. I was still their Alpha and I had the upper hand in meetings like this unless they all had already come to a mutual understanding before summoning for me. 'So what are we all gathered here for today?" I asked ensuring I kept a very straight and serious face while speaking with them. 'It's about your wife, Miriam. The whole pack is talking about her and your failed marriage and now they see us as a weak pack which is highly unacceptable" another one the council members yelled slamming his fist on the table. 'Ok that escalated faster than I thought it would" I whispered to myself as I saw the rage in his eyes. 'Christopher, you know fully well the consequences of what happened between you and Miriam and the fact that she has gone missing is not even a good play on part" the eldest council member said once more with a frown on his face but doing his best to remain calm and not raise his voice at me in front of the other council men. 'There's no need of your soft voice here Adam. If you're going to correct this young Alpha, its best you do it the right way" another one of the council members replied to the older one and it was at this point in time that I realized o didn't even know the names of the council members. I stood there silently and watched them yell and bicker among themselves like babies whose ball got stolen or punctured and it was quite entertaining. 'Listen Christopher, all we are trying to say is that you need to find Miriam and bring her back here as soon as possible and then let us the elders decide what to do with her. You haven't even told us what she did that could have resulted in her living the pack all of a sudden" Adam said as he looked at me in confusion. I wasn't quite sure what to say to the elders at this point and I wasn't sure of how they would react so I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders and faced them with the utmost courage I had but before I could speak, the doors to the conference room swung open and Louise walked in with Michael following swiftly behind her. 'Christopher, I did my best to stop her but she was too stubborn and wouldn't listen to reason" Michael apologized as the eyes of the council fell on him and Louise. 'Miriam can never be allowed to set foot into this pack" Louise said with an authoritative voice that seemed to only anger the Council the more. 'Who gave you the rights to walk into a meeting of the council and also command us on what to do and what not to do" Adam yelled as he rose from his seat and faced me. 'This is highly unaccepted Christopher, it looks like your family have lost all manners and respect for the traditions of this land and we can't stand by and what that happen" he added as he stared at Louise who did nothing but smile at his words. 'Nothing you say right is going to make me scared or walk away. At least not until you know what truly conspired between I and Miriam" Louise said with a smile on her face and all at once, the entire council was intrigued by whatever it was she wanted to let them know about and I was afraid of what she would actually say to them but I hoped and prayed she didn't do anything stupid. 'Miriam is one who is familiar with the customs and traditions of our kind. She knows the laws of the community and she knows the punishment for defying even just one of these laws" Louise added. 'What are you saying Miss. Louis" 'I was pregnant for the late Alpha and my unborn child was supposed to be crowned Alpha whenever he came of age but then, Miriam killed my child" she sobbed and I could see he shock and anger in the eyes of most of the council men. I didn't actually like what Louis was doing but at this point in time, I needed all the help I could get and I didn't care who it was helping me and what they person did or said to help me. 'That's treachery, How could she?" Adam demanded as his eyes glared up with frustration. 'That is the reason why she left the pack because she knows the punishment for such an offence is death or banishment." Louise replied rolling her eyes at me. 'With no child, that means no heir, no wife means…." 'That I and Christopher are getting married" Louise said interrupting Adam who was speaking and I found myself jaw dropped at what she had just said. 'You have got to be joking" Michael whispered as we all stared at Louise in awe.
