William let out a helpless sigh and shook his head. "I really don't know the reason, they don't tell me everything. And besides..."
He looked up at her, a hint of sincerity in his eyes. "Believe it or not, I never wanted your dad to die."
"You're saying this now? Way too late," Eira sneered. "If you hadn't helped him, none of this would've happened."
William was speechless, just lowered his head in silence.
She gave him a sideways glance, then stood up. "I'll look into today's stuff myself. You just stay put in here."
Hearing that, William breathed a silent sigh of relief.
But just as quickly, worry crawled back into his expression. He called out to her, voice tinged with desperation, "I know I messed up, I really do. I'll reflect on it, I promise. But my wife and Grace... They've got nothing to do with this. Can you just let them go?"
Eira paused mid-step, glancing back at him coldly. "Thinking of them now? Where was this concern when you were doing all that crap?"
