Almost in an instant, Alexander reacted, grabbing Eira and pulling her back.
The van sped right past where they'd been standing, whipping up a gust of wind in its wake.
"That thing was definitely gunning for us. Did you piss someone off recently?" Alexander's brows furrowed, his voice tinged with urgency.
Eira shot him a cold glance, yanked herself out of his arms, and took a few steps away.
Staring hard at the retreating van, she muttered, "I swear I saw that same van the day Grandma had her accident."
Hearing that, Alexander's expression darkened.
He stared intensely at her, tone pressing, "And you didn't think to tell me this earlier? Seriously?"
Eira looked at him like he'd lost it. "Are you kidding me? You wouldn't even go to the cops back then. You think you gave me a chance to talk?"
Alexander was momentarily speechless, guilt creeping into his chest.
He pulled out his phone and quickly made a call.
"Daniel, I need you to dig into something. Now," he ordered, curt and clipped.
