Alexander felt like his heart was about to jump out of his chest, the pounding echoing through his head like a war drum.
"What now? Cat got your tongue?" Edward raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by Alex's flushed face and the blank, stunned look in his eyes.
"Cut the crap!" Alex shot up from his seat, snapping sharply.
Edward was just about to tell him to take a look in the mirror when Alex suddenly stumbled out with unsteady steps, knocking over a few beer bottles on his way.
"Guess I nailed it, huh." Edward smirked, his tone full of unspoken meaning.
He rubbed his nose, took his time pulling out his phone, and sent Alex a love-strategy guide he'd slaved over.
Meanwhile, Eira was back at her villa.
Mr. Calvert, waiting at the door, couldn't help but feel a lump in his throat when he saw her pale, worn-out face.
