Chapter 1
The room was dimly lit, clothes scattered all over. Alexander Brooks' large hand gripped Eira Johnson's slender waist.
Startled, Eira opened her eyes, fingers clutching the edge of the bed. "No..."
"Oh? Awake already? Thought you were gonna play dumb to the end," Alexander sneered, movements becoming rougher. "What did you put in the soup tonight?"
"I didn't," Eira whimpered, eyes brimming with tears.
Just being his wife was already everything she'd hoped for. How could she dream of anything more?
Besides, she knew all too well-his heart didn't belong to her.
But still, she couldn't help caring.
All this time, she'd stayed at home, cooking, making soup to help his health. She studied recipes day after day. She couldn't believe this...
Why was this happening?
Feeling the emptiness in her body, she instinctively clung to the man she had loved for two years and whispered, "It hurts..."
Alexander shoved her away in disgust. "Get off me. Don't touch me."
The force sent Eira's head slamming into the bedside table. In that moment, her mind was flooded with a rush of familiar images, slowly piecing together the memories she'd lost.
They all came back.
The Johnson family of the Imperium City, where her doting older brother always stood by her side..
She was the cherished heiress of the powerful Johnson family-how could she have ended up like this?
She suddenly remembered-two years ago, just before she lost consciousness, the last person she saw was Alexander.
It was that one glance-that single moment-that made her fall for him, head over heels and without hesitation.
And now, thinking of all the humiliation she had endured over the past two years of marriage, Eira couldn't help but curse herself for being such a fool!
Fury surged past desire as she stared coldly at Alexander, her eyes like ice-then, with all her pent-up rage, she kicked him hard from beneath.
Alexander caught her ankle-only to move faster, not slower.
A wave of disgust churned in Eira's chest, and with every ounce of strength she had, she slapped him hard across the face.
The sound cracked through the silence like a whip.
Stunned, Alexander froze for a second. Eira took the chance to shove him off with both hands and feet, then quickly threw on a coat and stepped back, keeping distance between them.
Seeing the woman who used to take everything lying down now standing her ground, Alexander frowned, surprised. "You hit me?"
Eira stared him down; her eyes were colder than ever. "Yeah. I hit you. And while we're at it-just so you know, I'm done. I want a divorce."Thinking back on the past two years, she couldn't help but feel like life had played a cruel joke on her.
Alexander let out a cold snort. "Divorce? Are you serious? Don't forget how shamelessly you begged Grandma just to marry into the Brooks family."
Suddenly, the buzzing of a phone on the nightstand cut through the tension.
With a deep frown, Alexander grabbed the phone and answered curtly, "Speak."
A panicked voice came through, "Bro, get to the downtown hospital now! Sophia got hurt!"
"I'm on my way."
He ended the call, threw on some clothes, and gave Eira a frosty glance, eyes filled with disdain. "Stick to your role as Mrs. Brooks. Don't even think about anything else."
Once he was gone, Eira gave a bitter smile. She closed her eyes for a second, slowly exhaled.
Enough of this circus.
She calmly changed her clothes, gathered all her important documents, and dialed a number she hadn't contacted in two years.
As soon as the call connected, John Carter's voice came through, choked up, "Boss?! Where've you been these two years? We've been looking everywhere for you..."
Eira let out a dry chuckle. "Spent two years being dumb as hell. Draft me a divorce agreement and send it to the Brooks Group CEO's office. I need a car, too-now."
Stunned, John stammered, "Wait... divorce?!"
"Just do it." She hung up without waiting for a response. Staring at the ring on her finger, she gave a hollow laugh.
Just a single carat of crushed diamonds-back then, she treated it like a priceless treasure, terrified it might get scratched or chipped.
With a sneer, she slid it off and tossed it into the trash. Then she put on her makeup, calmly and flawlessly, like nothing had happened-and walked out without a glance back.
The rain had eased. Holding up her umbrella, Eira spotted a Rolls-Royce SUPER parked across the street.
That car was custom-made for her-there wasn't a second one like it in the world.
She slipped in, eyes locked on the Brooks' villa growing smaller in the rearview.
No more Mrs. Brooks.
It was like being shaken awake from a long nightmare.
Time to take her place again-the heiress of the Johnson family.
Right after dealing with things at the hospital, Alexander went straight back to the office. The moment he sat down, he noticed a file sitting neatly on his desk.
Assuming it was just regular work stuff, he opened it casually-only to be met with the bold title: Divorce Agreement.
