Elyana felt a slight tug at her heart. Maybe it was guilt, maybe affection—she wasn’t sure. But just as she was about to say something, James stepped between them, his tone mocking.
“Mr. Grey,” he said coldly, “are you throwing a tantrum? What’s next, crying for your mommy? If you’re still on milk, maybe it’s time someone took you back to the nursery.”
Arden’s face instantly darkened, the childish charm gone in a flash. “James, you better watch your mouth,” he growled. “Push me too far, and I’ll make sure you’re fish food by sunset.”
The air grew tense, the guards shifting slightly in anticipation. Elyana winced inwardly. She could almost see sparks flying between the two men, and with Daimon currently preoccupied handling the chaos in the city after the attack, the last thing she needed was a fight breaking out here.
Elyana sighed quietly, then turned to Arden with a soft but firm voice. “Go home, Arden. Please. I’ll come find you once things calm down.”
