Joxan couldn’t help but frown, his thoughts in turmoil. A weird, unfamiliar feeling stirred inside him—sympathy. Was it possible that Oasis, with all his wealth and privilege, was actually more pitiful than he was? The realization left him unsettled.
He quickly turned his back to Oasis, trying to shake off the feeling, but it lingered stubbornly.
Clearing his throat, Joxan muttered, “Fine. I’ll make a game for you, so you don’t get bored sitting around the house. Consider it a reward for keeping my secret. But listen—don’t tell anyone I made it. Not a soul!”
Oasis’s face lit up like a kid on Christmas morning. He bounced to his feet, but the sudden movement made him yelp in pain, clutching his sore backside.
Outside the room, Daimon, who had been walking by, paused with his hand on the doorknob. Hearing Oasis’s muffled cry and Joxan’s hushed voice, he hesitated.
“Keep it down, will you?” Joxan hissed. “If you keep acting like a lunatic, I’m not making you anything.”
