Daimon hesitated, his fingers lightly brushing over the smooth skin of the Enlyan's hand. He remembered the day he learned the truth from the servants—that Enlyan loved mangoes but had given them up because he was allergic. All those years, he had assumed she didn’t like them either, and he never questioned why mangoes never appeared at home.
The realization had struck him like a bolt of guilt—she had sacrificed even her simplest pleasure just for his sake. He’d meant to tell her that she didn’t need to change herself for him, that she could enjoy what she loved without worrying about him. But before he could find the right moment, Katrina came back into his life, and any chance of having that conversation vanished.
Now, as Enlyan coldly claimed not to like mangoes, Daimon couldn’t ignore the pang in his chest. Her words didn’t match the woman he once knew, and it left him feeling uneasy.
