Finding herself at the hospital again, Candace felt a crushing weight in her chest. After emergency treatment, Jamie's right eye had finally stopped bleeding, and he was being kept for observation.
She breathed a quiet sigh of relief, only to be urgently called into the doctor's office. "Ms. Brightshield, your son's right cornea is severely damaged and needs a corneal transplant within 72 hours.
"Otherwise, the corneal deterioration will gradually worsen and spread to the entire eye, and we'll have to remove the right eyeball."
"What?" Candace felt like she'd been struck by lightning.
