"You're worrying too much. They're not that stupid. Cutting off someone's leg? That's a prison sentence."
Zachary reached across the console and took my hand, his grip steady, his voice calm.
"Really? You're sure they wouldn't dare?"
He was a lawyer. If anyone knew what people could or couldn't get away with, it was him. His words should have reassured me, but the knot in my chest barely loosened. Sixteen thousand dollars wasn't pocket change, and those men weren't known for playing nice.
"Don't stress yourself out like this. Look at you, frowning like an old lady."
Zachary gave my hand a gentle squeeze, his eyes warm and steady.
