Chapter 136
The balcony door was open, and a chill breeze drifted in, giving Maria a cold shiver. She got up to close it.
Just as she shut the door, her gaze fell across the street—one of the apartments had its lights on.
“That place actually has someone living in it now?” she said.
“What? You keep tabs on all the neighbors across the block?” Daniel Lewis raised an eyebrow.
Maria didn’t respond. She’d always had a habit of standing on the balcony and watching the view. Over time, she subconsciously memorized which windows were usually lit and which weren’t. She could even tell what time different households got home just based on which lights came on.
That one apartment had never been lit before. She assumed it’d been empty this whole time.
After a night’s rest, Daniel felt recharged and offered to give Maria a ride to work.
