Andrew Johnson kept his tone polite but distant. "Miss Lane, it's obvious we're both here because our families pushed us into it. Same goes for me. Since we've met now, we can go home and report back—no need to drag this out with dinner. I doubt you really want to share a meal with me anyway, right?"
"Who's still in your car?" Maria Lewis asked cautiously, assuming it might be James Bennett.
"Some girl I met yesterday."
Maria paused. Well, that was an overreaction on her part.
"I was just about to say the same..." Isabella Lane began.
Before she could finish, the so-called "girl" stepped out of the car.
When Maria saw who it really was, she couldn’t help twitching her lips. "This is the 'girl' you were talking about?"
Andrew looked just as caught off guard. Seriously, why did he get out of the car?
James strolled up to the three of them with a small grin. "Wow, what a coincidence. Guess we're all here—let's go inside. My treat."
