When James Bennett was in a decent mood, Cody Phillips could buddy up to him without getting a cold shrug in return.
But when James was in a bad mood? Cody had to tiptoe around him like walking on eggshells, scared he’d set him off with just a breath.
James let out a long sigh, shut his phone off, and stood up to step out.
As soon as he opened the door, the hallway was buzzing. He frowned instantly.
It was almost time to get off work, and the whole place was alive—people straightening up their desks, packing their bags, someone snapping pics of a bouquet, others hammering away at their keyboards, racing the clock to wrap things up.
James caught sight of the bouquets on everyone’s desk and stopped in his tracks. "What’s going on?"
Cody, seeing his chance, muttered to himself, "Took him long enough... any longer and the man would’ve probably turned green with jealousy."
"Ms. Lewis said it’d be a waste to throw them out, so she spruced them up and handed them out. That way, the flowers do
