Chapter 36
Amelia had no idea Maria already had kids. So when she spotted her outside the kindergarten, she thought she was about to uncover something big and quickly snapped a photo.
“Sheesh, James needs to see this. The woman he’s still hung up on? Yep, totally not what he thinks she is.”
Not long after, the school's dismissal bell rang, and kids came rushing out like a wave. Amelia stepped back to avoid being knocked over, getting pushed all the way to the right side of the crowd. Still, her eyes never left Maria.
Then the two kids showed up. They weren’t far, so Amelia got a good look at their faces. The second it registered, she froze up, brain totally blank. By the time she snapped out of it, they were gone.
She dragged herself back to her car, slumped into the driver’s seat, and shut the door, letting the outside noise fade. She muttered under her breath, “No way… does James really not know?”
