At night, she snapped a photo of her ticket and sent it to Isabella. Isabella said she'd bring the kids to the airport to pick her up. Maria was already looking forward to seeing them tomorrow. The next morning, Maria got up early to pack. She was busy for a good while when she looked up and saw James leaning casually against the doorway. “What time's your flight?” James asked with a calm face, his eyes hard to read. “Seven in the evening.” James just let out an “Oh” and turned to leave, making Maria feel confused for a moment. After work, she headed straight for the airport. Before boarding, she called Isabella, who was also getting ready to head out with the kids. The plane slowly climbed, eventually piercing through the clouds. The sun had already set, and the sky above the clouds looked dull and gloomy—nothing to admire. Maria closed her eyes for a bit, but midway through the flight, a flight attendant gently woke her up with a snack. The flight was only three hours long, and they
