The two split up. Cody handed the staff some cash and told them to go out and have their own dinner.
Everyone had already been feeling awkward there, so once they heard that, they didn’t even hesitate—they left right away, some not even bothering to say goodbye to Amelia.
James spotted Amelia in the middle of excitedly chatting with a few friends. He walked over, briefly greeted the group, then said in a calm tone, "Come with me, I need a word with you."
Amelia lit up instantly and followed him to the lounge.
As soon as they stepped inside, James’s face turned cold. He clenched his teeth and snapped, "You and my mom were planning to announce our engagement tonight, weren’t you?"
Amelia’s heart dropped. She immediately denied it, "No, of course not..."
But her panicked face gave her away.
