The driver got back in the car and pulled away, leaving Miranda and Wayne standing under the same umbrella.
It had been years since Miranda had been this close to a man. She felt a little uneasy, especially since that man was Wayne, which made it even worse.
She could smell the cool, crisp scent of his cologne. It was faint and carried a damp edge in the rainy night air.
As she followed behind him, she discreetly created some space between them until they arrived at their destination—a tiny hole-in-the-wall eatery.
That was when Miranda realized Wayne had brought her out for food. She instantly felt ashamed for even thinking he might be planning to kill her and dump the body. She was good at projecting bad intentions onto decent people, wasn't she?
