Chapter 91
Lucas waited outside the exhibition, unable to enter. He stood there until the doors closed for the day, but he never caught a glimpse of Miranda. When he rushed back to the hotel, he was told she had already left. Without thinking, he immediately booked the next flight back home.
This trip had cost him more than just missed work. He hadn't even managed to talk to her properly. He had promised Jake that he would bring his mother home. Now, it looked like that promise would be broken.
His plane landed late at night.
Just as he stepped out of the airport, his phone rang. It was from William, his tone unusually serious.
"Your mother's back. Come over. Now."
"Tomorrow. I need to go see Miranda," Lucas said.
"I said now." The line went dead.
Lucas had no choice but to head to William's place. Even before he reached the door, he could already hear shouting from inside.
