My phone vibrated three times in my palm just as I was feeling my way along the wall to the kitchen to boil some water.
My fingertips had just touched the cold faucet when the voice assist software read out a text from an unknown number in a mechanical female voice.
"Miss Prescott, this is Mr. Vance's assistant. I have something regarding Tiana Sterling to discuss with you. Tonight at 8 PM, the usual café."
The words "the usual café" pricked my fingertips like a needle.
That was the café Kellan Vance and I used to frequent before I lost my sight. The window seat overlooked a street full of plane trees. He always said my eyes when I smiled were brighter than the sunlight outside.
I changed into my only decent black coat, put on sunglasses, and asked my neighbor to hail me a taxi.
I had just ordered a cup of hot milk when I heard hurried footsteps approaching me, carrying a hint of panic.
