I was barely listening to Carmelo's explanation of the situation. I didn't need to remember the details or to hear his recap. However, I found it interesting how professional and solemn his voice was. He spoke with reverence as if he was a subordinate to Albert. I guessed after shooting his capo for offending Albert, he probably was. Albert said nothing just listening to what he was saying, but I could feel him growing more and more tense the longer Carmelo spoke.
The fact that Carmelo had noticed me from the moment I had been drugged through their poverty the first time and was keeping track of me unnerved me. It felt like I would never know how deeply entangled I was in the criminal underground.
Albert’s gaze never left Carmelo, his expression one of keen interest but also of cold authority.
