Chapter 47
Kaelon’s POV
I sat in the grand dining room, a quiet morning stretching in front of me.
The soft hum of the city outside was muffled by the heavy curtains that lined the windows.
It was rare that I could sit still, let alone have a peaceful breakfast, but this morning was different. There was no rush and for once, I could actually enjoy my coffee.
The rich taste of it filled my senses, and I let the steam from the cup warm my face.
The silence was broken only by the soft clinking of silverware and the occasional shuffle of the kitchen staff moving behind the scenes.
I was just beginning to enjoy the calm when the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway, followed by the creak of the dining room door swinging open.
