Chapter 19
The day before the wedding, at the Schuman residence, Jasmine sat at the vanity table in the bridal suite, her fingers lightly brushing over the tiny diamonds on her wedding dress.
Outside, the sun was shining perfectly. Housekeepers bustled around the estate, setting up for tomorrow's ceremony. Everything looked perfect.
There was a soft knock at the door.
"Jasmine?"
Morton pushed it open, carrying a cup of warm rose tea in one hand and a small velvet gift box in the other.
He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, the collar slightly open, and his eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses were unbearably gentle.
"You barely touched your breakfast." He set the tea beside her, his tone tinged with exasperation. "The kitchen said you only drank half a glass of milk."
Jasmine lifted her head and smiled faintly. "Is Mr. Schuman here to scold me?"
"No, I wouldn't dare." He leaned down and handed her the box. "I just don't want you going hungry."
