After trying on what felt like her seventh or eighth dress, Evelyn was ready to throw in the towel.
No matter what she wore, Julian had something to say about it.
"This one's too revealing on the side," or "That one shows too much in the back."
Basically, nothing passed the inspection.
With a sigh, Evelyn flopped onto the sofa and looked up at him, frustration clear in her eyes. "Mr. Everett, maybe I should just go in a turtleneck and jeans."
At the moment, she was wearing a red spaghetti strap dress. It had a V neckline, sure, but compared to the others she tried, it was practically modest.
And yet...
Julian still didn't look pleased.
His eyes kept drifting to her chest and back like there was still too much on display, and his face clearly said that wasn't okay.
But as soon as he heard the annoyance in Evelyn's voice, Julian snapped out of whatever sour mood he was in.
He plopped down beside her, reaching for her hand.
Looking pitiful, he leaned over and murmured, "Babe, I was wrong.
