Chapter 8

Pen did not imagine that Muse could have had the courage to denounce him, despite his threats to forbid her from doing it. He felt safe from any sanction. He thought that he had the right to abuse the poor girl as much as he wants without being worried about being caught. But Pauline could not remain indifferent in the face of this despicable act this time around. She told herself that Pen went further by raping Muse. Moreover, the college of Muse told her that if they still hear the latter suffering from such an act, they would take up this case in person and denounce it to justice. Pauline was then afraid that such a thing would happen. Indeed, she would have more to lose in this case. Because her infidelity would then be exposed to the eyes of the whole family and to everyone's knowledge. Her husband wouldn't hesitate to kick her out on the spot. What about the dismissive gaze people would now cast on her? No, the price to pay if this heinous act came to be known was too high for her to bear it. So that's what scared her more, preventing her husband and people from outside finding out what a woman she really is, and not the cause of Muse who received a trauma that can leave an indelible mark on her throughout her life. Pauline didn't give a damn or wax. Muse's condition was the least of her worries at the moment. Her reputation had to be urgently preserved. Is it not often said that when a person is wrong, anger becomes a weapon of defense? This is how Pen had decided to wall himself in silence and pass off his lover for the culprit. He knew Pauline perfectly and he knew that this strategy would work for sure. So, Pen seeing himself betrayed and stuck by Muse's confession, gets angry and rushes to his room to go pack his bags in order to leave the house immediately. He was so angry that Pauline called him to account, as if what he had done was trivial. Muse, meanwhile, was very happy that she was finally going away. She told herself she could finally breathe when he would live the house. However, Pauline was not of the same opinion. She was in panic at the idea of seeing her lover leave the house in anger. Being against this idea, she follows him to his room trying to dissuade him from leaving the house. "What are you doing darling?" She asks Pen who has just put his suitcase on the bed and takes his clothes out of the closet. Pauline's face could be read that she was freaking out about letting Pen leave the house. "I'm fixing my things, it shows, isn't it? Or do you want me to draw you a picture to let you know that I am freeing your house?" Pen replies without deigning to lift his gaze to his interlocutor. Pen spoke in an angry tone. Pauline didn't want to offend him by saying something he would take wrong. She loved her lover blindly. "Do you want us to talk about it more calmly?" She asks in a soft and pleading voice. "What do you want us to talk about? Everything has already been cleary said!" He answers while continuing to put his clothes in the suitcase with abrupt gestures. "Please my sweetheart, you cannot make a decision out of anger. We can discuss with peace of mind, right? Don't take a decision while being angry." Pauline gave him a pleading look. "You raised your tone on me earlier anyway. And even though I slept with the little one, is that how you're supposed to talk to me? Did you ask me why I did such a thing? Have you wondered if she wasn't the one who seduced me at first and that I was just weak?" He asks the questions in a row. Pen was trying to play with Pauline's psychology. He always knew how to handle her. He wanted to pass himself off as a victim and it worked so well with Pauline who would swallow up any insanity coming from him, like a word of the gospel. She was ready to do anything to keep him, even against all ethics. Her love for him was blinding her. Pen's words do have an effect on her. She begins to soften in front of him. "I knew you couldn't do such a thing without her provoking you first. This cursed girl who spends her time walking half-naked here at the house. I'm sure she hasn't stopped provoking you because you're a handsome man. This girl is on a mission in my house to sow discord in my family. Can you imagine that she went to tell the mother of one of her classmates that you raped her all the time? And this woman had the nerve to go see the principal of her college and tell him everything. The latter summoned me to go to college urgently. The worst part of this whole thing is that he first called my husband to go get her. Do you realize the scandal it could have created if he had been there in person?" Pauline tells Pen who stopped in his task. "Oh my God! That must not be true! She didn't dare to do that?!" He exclaims in shock. "I assure you ! And what scares me is the fact that Georges might have known if he was in town. Can you imagine what could have happened to us if my husband had heard about it ?" Pauline resumes looking panicked. "I now understand your reaction to me my darling. Your husband's niece is a witch. She knows what she's looking for in this house. Her plan was to seduce me in order to put you in conflict with your husband. And she had almost managed to separate us." Pen goes on without a hint of shame. "I beg your pardon my love, forgive me for having doubted you and for having shouted at you!" Pauline begs her lover in return. "You are forgiven sweetie! I understand that you were under pressure and that this witch had managed to manipulate you." Pen responds by pulling his lover close to him. This is how the two lovebirds were reconciled to Muse's great misfortune. Pauline helped Pen to put back the effects he had put in his suitcase in the walk-in closet. He had achieved his goals. He had succeeded in manipulating Pauline and turning the situation against Muse. Now Muse was alone with her torturers who could do whatever they wanted with her. And it did not take long for them to do this. Because once Pauline and her lover were reconciled, they went to the room of poor Muse who did not know that the situation had turned against her. Indeed, she was unaware that Pen had succeeded in convincing Pauline that it was she who had seduced him so that they sleep together and Pauline had swallowed this with her eyes closed. Muse was therefore happy that Pen would have to leave the house. She thought she was finally going to have a little break. But she was far from imagining the hurtful truth. As Muse was lying peacefully on her bed, she heard her bedroom door crash open. She turns around with a start to see who could open her door so brutally. She falls on Pauline and Pen who give her a look of the least sympathetic. Just seeing their looks on her, Muse understood immediately that she was in a bad way. "Get up witch!" Pauline said, pushing Muse who was then lying down. She gets up looking lost. "You wanted to get us into trouble eh?! Put into your mind that your plan has failed! You will not succeed in your shot!" Pauline continues to say, shouting at Muse. "But...' Muse stammers with fear in her eyes. "You were waiting to see Pen go, weren't you? He will stay here and you will be the first to leave. Aren't you ashamed to seduce a man at your young age? And you go off telling lies about his name brazenly. Pauline adds. "I did not lie. I never seduced him mom!" Muse responds innocently. She suddenly becomes fearful. She understands that the situation is against her. "You fool! When you walk half-naked in this house, isn't that a form of seduction?" Pauline continues to say without failing to intimidate Muse with her gaze. Pen is standing at the door, witnessing the scene. He was very happy with the way things were going in his favor. "You are a liar. All you want is to get people into trouble. You are just a mean girl. You consented when we slept together and it was even you who offered it to me when I didn't want to. You looked at me with seductive eyes, not forgetting your provocative steps. You threw your towel in front of me remaining naked, but now you want to play the victim by telling everywhere that I raped you." Pen adds, cowardly accusing the poor girl. Muse couldn't believe the turnaround of the situation. She understood immediately that she would always be the loser no matter what, since her aunt's wife would rather choose to listen to her lover. "If you still dare open your valve which serves as your mouth to tell nonsense about what is happening in this house to people, know that I will look for you wherever you go and I will show you all the colors. Looks like you don't have enough of my threats. Next time I'm going to carry them out and trust me I'm not kidding." Pauline warned her in a severe tone. Muse was literally shaking with fear in front of Pauline and her lover. They intimidated her with their threatening looks. After these threats which gave Muse a cold back, Pauline and Pen leave her room. Muse began to cry. How long was her ordeal to last? She who believed that she could finally breathe, but she was quickly overtaken by the reality of her sad life. She was so confused by the way.
