Chapter 7
Early the next morning, Vivian and I went to the hospital for a checkup. She held onto my arm, looking very pale.
The doctor's brow furrowed tightly when he saw her medical report. "The quadruplets are too much of a burden for you, and you're already showing signs of an early miscarriage. You must think quickly about reducing the number of fetuses, or else both you and the babies will be in danger."
Vivian immediately gripped my arm tightly when she heard this. Her voice trembled. "Honey…"
I patted her hand and turned to say to the doctor, "Let's discuss this first."
When we left the consultation room, she asked hesitantly, "Should we just listen to the doctor?"
"Don't be afraid, honey."
I put an arm around her shoulders and made my voice sound both soft and gentle. "My mother said that if the babies are born safely, she'll give us ten million for sons and five million for daughters. They'll even give us a big villa with five storeys. If there are four babies, then that's—"
