Chapter 15
Gianna quickly grew familiar with Carl. With his help, she landed a teaching assistant job at the school and rented a two-bedroom apartment. On moving day, Carl helped her carry her luggage from the hotel.
While they were unpacking, he suddenly noticed a painting in her suitcase and stared at it for a long while.
Gianna explained, "That was my sister's painting. She's passed away, and I've kept it ever since."
"She passed away?" Carl's face went pale, and he shot to his feet. "How did she die?"
Gianna was surprised. "Do you know my sister?"
After a moment, Carl nodded. "I wouldn't say I knew her, but we've met a few times. I knew her name, but she never knew mine."
Gianna finally understood. "Were you one of her fanboys? When she studied there, guys of all ages chased her. She pretty much attracted everyone.
"But she only cared about art back then, and dating wasn't even on her mind. Later, she returned to our home country, fell ill, and didn't last long.
