There was a time when Gianna had repeatedly asked Shane for those words. She would pester him endlessly by asking him if he liked her. She didn't even dare to ask if he loved her because she believed neither of them could handle such a strong word. However, Shane had never answered it and had always brushed it off. She used to dream about how he would say it if he ever did. She had imagined it happening at the beach, under fireworks, on top of a snowy mountain, and in every romantic setting she could think of. She never expected it to happen after their divorce, at the door of a tiny apartment in a foreign country. Shane finally told her he loved her, but she no longer needed it. Her heart didn't stir, not even a ripple. Feeling irritated to see him here again, she reached out to close the door. Shane quickly put his hand in the doorway to block it.
