Chapter Nine

"Hello..." I said, my voice full of uncertainty.

Kody's deep voice filled my ears "I'm coming to pick you up."

I widened my eyes in confusion. "I already told you I can't, Kody. I'll call you when I'm finished-"

"You didn't tell me you were at Bodley. Do you know what type of neighborhood you're in?"

He had a point.

"Calm down, there's literally twelve of us here. And you act like I chose the park."

"You're in the park. The very dangerous park while you're carrying my child. I'm bound to have some worries."

The possesiveness in his tone when he spoke about the baby made my stomach flip but I pushed it to the back of my mind. "I'm not putting the baby in any danger. I'm not putting myself in any danger. It's broad daylight. I'll call you later."

There was silence and then... "I'll see you in ten minutes."

He hung up the phone and I frowned staring at the blank screen.

"That was so cute." Macy said with a huge smile on her face.

I rolled my eyes. "He's coming here. He didn't listen." I took a deep breath. "Stella is going to murder me."

Macy shook her head. "Screw Stella." she grabbed her phone back sliding it into her pocket."Come on. Let's go and make an excuse."

We walked over to where Stella stood together.

"Macy, Ezra, the leaves aren't finished."

Macy placed a hand on her hip. "I gotta go, Stells. Jamie has an emergency. I have to go with him."

That was a good excuse.

Stella widened her eyes. "Oh, sure no problem. Let him know that Zeta Phi is thinking of him." she said shooing Macy off.

Once Macy walked off (sending me a sneaky thumbs up), Stella turned to me.

"Can I help you, Ezra?"

I shifted my feet, wincing when I realized it made me look nervous. "I have to go too." I said trying to sound serious.

"Yeah right." Stella replied crossing her arms.

"I do." I argued, standing my ground. "I have a doctors appointment. I'm getting birth control and this is the only opening they have for months."

Stella eyed me. She knew I was lying, but there was nothing she could do about it.

"Fine. I expect to see forms."

I nodded my head deciding that I would deal with that problem when I had to.

Walking towards the parking lot I forced myself to relax. Kody was going to pick me up and we were going to talk like we were supposed to.

I was going to ignore all of the things I felt whenever he looked at me a certain way, because I was resposible.

And having a second affair with my baby's father would not be responsible.

When he pulled up to the park he had a scowl on his face. He was dressed in a basketball jersey and sweatpants. I assumed he had just gotten out of bed.

He put the car in park, walking around to open the door for me. I looked at him with a raised brow.

He didn't look me in the eyes. Instead he scanned the park, slamming the door when I was sat in the passenger's seat.

He walked slowly back around the car, lowering himself into the drivers seat.

He drove for a short time, pulling up at a small restaurant. It looked fancy so I looked over both of our outfits.

"Do you really think we're dressed for this?" I asked raising a brow.

Kody shrugged, not giving me any other answer.

Before i could unbuckle my seat belt, he was there pulling the door open. I bit my tongue, holding in whatever sarcastic comment I was about to say and allowed him to help me out of the car.

The restaurant smelled incredible and i relaxed as the host showed us to a small table decorated in white.

Kody grabbed a menu, barely scanning it before ordering coffee and croissants. He then looked t me to see what I wanted.

Since it was around lunchtime, I ordered a club sandwich with homemade chips and a glass of fresh lemonade. The server smiled at us, barely lingering over our outfits, before walking away

"When did you find out?" Kody asked jumping straight into interogation mode.

I played with the ends of the lace tablecloth. "A couple of days ago." I said in a low voice. This was awkward for me.

He nodded his head. "Okay, what did the doctor say?"

I sent him a blank look. "She said everything looks good, Kody. The baby is healthy so far."

"Did she give you a due date?"

"June eighteenth." i whispered, shutting my mouth when the waitress came back with her hands full of the world's best smelling coffee.

She sat a mug down in front of Kody pouring it full before turning to me and sitting my glass of lemonade down as well.

The lemonade looked good but the coffee looked and smelled like heaven.

I must have been staring at his cup because Kody raised an eyebrow, "Do you want some?" He asked, motioning to his cup.

I shook my head. "I'm not supposed to have too much caffeine."

My pamphlet had said that I could have a little, but I didn't want to take any risks.

Kody ran a hand through his hair. "i didn't know that. what else can't you have?"

I shrugged. "A bunch of stuff. Is this really the reason you wanted to meet. to talk about what I can and can't eat?"

He narrowed his eyes. "I want to know. If you haven't noticed, I've never done this before."

I cringed, feeling like an asshole again."Okay kody. This is new for both of us, we just need to figure out how we're going to deal with it."

He leaned forward on the table. "That's exactly what I'm trying to do."

I nodded, taking a sip of my lemonade.

It was amazing.

"My dad is going to want to meet you." Kody blurted out

I choked on my drink. "You told him?" I asked pressing a fist against my chest clearing my throat.

Kody smirked before clearing his features. "Not yet. But when I do tell him, he's going to want to meet you."

I nodded. It made sense. Why wouldn't he want to meet the mother of his future grandchild.

I pictured Mr. Vincent as a tall business man who turned his nose up at the slightest grievance.

However that was probably me being judgemental. I decided to give him a chance before I made any predeterminations about him.

"Alright." I said confidently. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

Kody agreed and went back to eating his food.

"I don't want the whole school to find out." I blurted out after thinking about it.

Kody's eyes went dark. "You mean you don't want your ex boyfriend finding out?"

It wasn't what I had meant but it was true. I didn't want Jaxon finding out.

"I don't want anyone finding out. I already told Macy and King knows but other than that-"

"My King?" Kody interrupted raising a brow.

I hesitantly nodded. Should I have kept that to myself?

"How the hell does King know?" He questioned speaking a little louder than we had been before.

Definitely should have kept that to myself.
