Chapter 1

It was July in Jiangcheng. Wendy Su had just resigned from her job in the Gu Group. She had just left the building when she suddenly received a call from her friend, Ruby Tang. "Hey, Wendy, you won't believe what I saw. Last night, I saw Brian at the hotel with another woman clinging to his arm." Her footsteps paused as she was walking down the stairs and she gave him a light chuckle. "Ruby, you must have gotten the wrong person." Ruby's tone was very tense and serious, "No way, as if I could forget his face. Wendy, did something happen between the two of you? Has he mentioned anything about another woman?" Ruby was very curious. She saw a reporter taking pictures of him and he didn't even bother to hide his face, it was as if he wanted to be photographed. Wendy bit her lip as she thought about her husband's cold look when he saw her recently. Anxiety was written all over her face and she reluctantly said, "Ruby, it's nothing. I have to go now, I'll talk to you some other time." She feared that she would ask more questions, so she hung up the phone in a hurry. She put her phone in her pocket and as she looked up she saw a familiar dark blue Lamborghini parked at the entrance of the 4S store opposite the company building. The car door opened, and a tall man got out. Wendy glanced over and her body froze up. After the tall man got out of the car, he went to the front passenger seat. The gentleman pulled the car door, and a woman got out from the car. She was wearing a miniskirt and a short T-shirt, exposing her long white legs and slender waist, which were very eye-catching. The man's gaze swept over and he saw Wendy. He was stunned to see her. The woman immediately noticed his absentmindedness. She deliberately rubbed the man's arm with her breasts to get his attention. The man looked back and gave her a coy smile, he then lowered his head to kiss the woman. Wendy could feel her heart getting pinched, she felt like she couldn't breathe. She could feel the gravity of their relationship from across the street. She met his gaze once again and this time his eyes were warning her to stay away. When Wendy came back to her senses, the two of them had entered into the 4S store. She then took the bus home. When she got off, Brian's Lamborghini was already parked near the villa. He leaned on the car door with a cigarette in his right hand. He took a puff and soon after his face was obscured with wisps of gray smoke. He immediately noticed the bus stopping, and he saw her getting out of it. "Why did you go to the office today?" Wendy's step forward was cut short, but she then continued to walk forward as if she hadn't heard anything. "You're my husband, why shouldn't I be there?" She replied. Brian put out his cigarette, he blocked Wendy's way forward. He leaned over, his cold eyes met Wendy's expressionless eyes. He was slightly stunned, and then his voice became colder, "Don't show up at my workplace." "Why? Are you afraid?" Wendy smiled mockingly. "Afraid your secretary will find out that you're already married?" Wendy looked like an ordinary office lady working at the financial department of the Gu Group, but no one knew she was actually married to its CEO, Brian Gu. Surprisingly, Brian didn't realize she had worked there for a year now. Wendy had been married to Brian for a year. With this revelation, who knows what would become of their relationship? Wendy's eyes were empty as she looked back on the memories of their one year marriage. "Afraid?" Brian smiled contemptuously. He looked at Wendy with disdain. "Wendy, do you think I'm afraid of you?" He then smiled mockingly. "Don't get me wrong, your family methods are unbelievably cruel. Don't use them on Kirsten, she's not you. Surely you understand that, don't you?" Wendy's face went pale, she then lowered her head to conceal her emotions. Before she could react, Brian suddenly took her by the shoulders, he brought her towards the villa, and he shouted, "Mom, we're back!" Irma Jiang was busy preparing a few things, but when she heard his son and his wife come back, a smile appeared on her face. She then walked over to the door to greet them. "Welcome back! I made some chicken soup for you two." Although Irma was over fifty, she was well maintained. She looked like a woman in her thirties and her crow's feet could barely be seen. Wendy only smiled reluctantly and she said nothing in response to her gentle, caring eyes. Irma seemed to have guessed something. She glared at her son fiercely. When she turned her head to face Wendy, her expression became soft again. "If you don't want chicken soup I can make your favorite crucian carp instead." Wendy and her mother-in-law liked each other very much, but today she had no energy and she said in a low voice, "I'm fine, Mom. I don't have much of an appetite tonight. I'm a bit tired, so I will go up and rest first." There was pain in her shoulder and she started to feel it. She broke free of Brian's grasp and she walked straight upstairs. Irma had a frustrated expression on her face, she stopped Brian who was about to go upstairs. "You two fought again. What happened?" Brian curled his lips. "How do I know? Maybe it's that time of the month for her." "Brian, I may be old, but I'm not an idiot!" Irma's tone was a bit sharp. She saw that her son had an unhappy expression. She sighed and softened her voice, "Brian, you can't associate with other women anymore, don't forget you are already—"
