Chapter 15
When Luke got home, Karl and Marion had just headed out. The house was quiet and deserted. Only the sound of Luke's heavy footsteps on the stairs could be heard.
Luke could not care about anything else. He had only one thought in his head. It was to open that door—the door he had opened countless times before.
When he pushed the door open this time, Luke saw that the room was empty and desolate. Whether it was the bathroom, the dressing room, or the study area, he knew exactly what items were placed at the different spots in the room by heart.
Yet, there was nothing left now, no matter where he looked. The things and mementos that carried their secrets were nowhere to be found.
It was only after he had seen it with his own eyes that Luke finally believed Rosalie had left.
The defenses he had put up all this time crumbled and collapsed almost instantly. A wave of despair and panic swept over him.
