Chapter 17
"We can't go back to how things were anymore, Luke."
That was the only response Rosalie could and wanted to give him.
Luke lapsed into another long silence.
Rosalie could tell that Luke was on the verge of having a breakdown as she picked up on the sound of his ragged breathing.
She did not want to tick him off, sending him into a rage and risking ruining their family. So, she made a heartfelt plea in the end, saying, "Please don't blame my mom anymore. She hasn't done anything wrong, Luke. She's done everything she can for you, Karl, and our family.
"My mom only wishes to have a happy and peaceful life. Please don't blame it on her anymore."
The flames of resentment that had burned fiercely for a long time in Luke's heart slowly died down as he listened to Rosalie's choked voice.
As if he had just woken up from a dream, a profound sense of confusion and unreality came over him. Luke was in a complete daze. He could not understand what exactly he had been doing all these years,
