Chapter 7 Nina's Unwelcome Visit

Daniel clapped his hands with delight when he heard Sabrina was moving in. "That's the spirit! I was worried you'd live separately even after marrying Curtis. That won't help your relationship grow." Sabrina felt a momentary stiffness but followed Daniel's line of thought. "I'd like to take care of you more as well." "Don't worry, I'll help you move in a bit. I may be older, but I'm still pretty strong." Sensing the warmth in Daniel's offer, Sabrina did not decline. With Curtis absent, their dinner was even more pleasant than usual. Sabrina could not help but wonder how such a kind man like Daniel could have a grandson like Curtis. Curtis was a handful, and the thought of putting up with him for a year made her uneasy. She hoped Curtis would not give her any more trouble. Sabrina took photos of her apartment and listed it online. She had initially bought it for 80,000 dollars but now, she slightly lowered the price, hoping for a quick sale. True to his word, Curtis wired 100,000 dollars into her account. She promptly sent it to her brother Barry, who was overseeing their grandfather's care. Concerned about where she got the money from, Barry called her. "It's all good. I sold my apartment and threw in my savings. Don’t worry about it." Barry breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll make sure Grandpa's well taken care of. Between the two of us, we've got his medical expenses covered. You don't need to be overly concerned. I'll let you know if anything happens.” "Got it. You take care of yourself too." After a brief chat, they hung up. Sabrina began packing, realizing just how few items she had left in the apartment after her breakup with Aaron. Despite having a great job and earning 10,000 dollars a month, most of her money had gone to Aaron. Sabrina had always told herself that supporting Aaron was an investment. That illusion shattered when she discovered he had been having an affair with Nina. Worse still, she realized that her money had been going to Nina too. The thought made her want to throw up. Just as she finished packing, furious knocking echoed through her front door. Wondering who could be so angry, Sabrina peered through the peephole to find an angry Nina. As expected, she was here for Aaron. Sabrina opened the door, her face displaying clear contempt. How dare they come looking for me? Do they think I'm that easygoing? "Sabrina, you wretched woman!" Nina's fist swung through the air, but instead of landing on Sabrina's face, Sabrina caught her flying fist and pushed it back at Nina, sending Nina stumbling two steps back. "B*tch!" "Nina, I'm not interested in fighting with you. Why are you here?" "Where's Aaron, Sabrina? What have you done to him? I swear, if he's hurt, you're not walking away unscathed!" Nina's actions were a classic display of a jealous girlfriend. Her face twisted into a snarl, and her voice was tinged with hysteria. It made Sabrina furrow her brows. Sabrina calmly regarded Nina, thinking she looked like a clown in the middle of a circus act. "Aaron?" Sabrina said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "I sent him to the police station. Are you so desperate to find him that you want a police escort as well?" "Police station? Why?" Nina was flabbergasted. "You're still into Aaron, aren't you? So you got him arrested because you found out he's with me? Wow, Sabrina, I never pegged you for that kind of woman. Why would you do that?" "Why shouldn't I? Both of you have betrayed my trust and swindled my money. I've been lenient enough not to bring the law into this. If I were in your shoes, I'd be too ashamed to even show up here." Nina exclaimed, "Liar! When did I ever swindle your money? And you were the one who wanted to be friends in the first place! You're just jealous because Aaron likes me more. Don't forget, Aaron said nobody would ever love you, you ugly woman." Sabrina clenched her fists, struggling to control her anger and resist the urge to slap Nina's two-faced expression off her face. "All these years, the money Aaron spent on you came from me. You thought he was some talented guy? In reality, he's just a freeloader living off women." "That's nonsense! You're just slandering Aaron because he betrayed you. You clearly still have feelings for him!" "You're wrong. I never had feelings for Aaron. Initially, I was attracted to his talent, but now? I realize he's nothing but a hypocrite. Also, stop tying my name to that scumbag. I'm a married woman now. If you bring any more trouble my way, you'll regret it." Sabrina had no interest in wasting another breath on Nina. The moment she uncovered Aaron's true colors, she had already let go of him. Any feelings she might have had were long gone. Nina looked at Sabrina in horror. "You really sent Aaron to the police station?" "Yes, he almost killed me. It's perfectly reasonable that I sent him there." "You're a monster, Sabrina. How could you send him to jail after spending all these years together? Your husband must be miserable living with a lunatic like you." Sabrina gave Nina a bewildered look, puzzled by her warped reasoning. Was she supposed to just sit back and let someone harm her? She could not be bothered with Nina anymore and shut the door in Nina's face. "Mark my words, Sabrina!" Even with the door firmly closed, Sabrina could still hear Nina's howls of rage. But now, Sabrina honestly couldn't care any less.
