Chapter 4

In the middle of the night, my phone suddenly rang. I groggily answered the call, only to hear Tiffany's voice on the other end. "Sienna, Simon drank too much. Come quickly to pick him up and take him home." I felt my sleepiness vanish instantly, but didn't bother to go or even reply. I just hung up and went back to sleep. … After some time had passed, the door was suddenly kicked open. My blanket was also yanked off, and the cold wind jolted me fully awake again. When I looked up, I met Simon's furious gaze. "Sienna! I was drunk! Why didn't you come get me? Is it because you never loved me?" he barked. I was baffled to hear his barrage of accusations. I used to worry about his safety, and I would always check his schedule and offer to pick him up. Not only did he not appreciate it, but he accused me of being controlling and embarrassing him in front of his friends. Now, when I respected his wishes and gave him freedom, he claimed I didn't love him. What a joke! I couldn't be bothered to respond and reached for the blanket to go back to sleep, but Simon lost his temper at that. He snatched the blanket away and threw it to the floor. He bellowed, "Sienna, haven't you made enough of a scene? You purposely wore a wedding dress to propose at the annual party and embarrassed me. I didn't even say anything about that, so what exactly is your problem?" I suddenly turned to look at him. "Simon, weren't you the one who messaged me, saying you were going to propose at the party and asked me to wear a wedding dress? Why are you acting dumb now?" Simon stiffened up and turned to look at Tiffany. I followed his gaze and saw that Tiffany's face had gone deathly pale. Upon seeing her reaction, we instantly understood what had happened—Tiffany had sent the proposal message. After thinking about the humiliation I had suffered during the day, I sneered. "Well done with the self-scripted performance. You're quite the drama queen. Not going into showbiz is truly a waste of your talent." Tiffany bit her lip woefully and said nothing, as if she were the victim. As soon as Simon saw her in this state, he felt heartbroken for her and immediately stepped in to smooth things over. "Alright, that's enough from you. She's just—" I cut him off and finished his sentence for him. "She's just young and immature. She did it all for my sake. She's just a little willful, but she meant no harm… Anything else you want to add?" When he heard me finish his usual defense, Simon's expression turned unpleasant. It wasn't strange that I could speak up so smoothly—every time Tiffany caused trouble, Simon would make up various excuses to defend her. He kept indulging her mistakes with zero boundaries, and yet he expected me to compromise. I'd had enough of living like that. "Simon, let's break up," I suggested. I stated it firmly, but Simon widened his eyes in disbelief. "It's just a small matter. Are you really going to break up with me over it?" Tiffany, standing to the side, started pretending to be demure. "Sienna, I was just joking. If you can't take a joke, I'll apologize, okay? But don't drag Simon into this. He really loves you!" Simon, who had just been about to argue with me, fell silent and looked at Tiffany with despair. "What's there to apologize for? Don't blame yourself. If she wants to break up, then let her!" he declared.
