Megan suppressed the sorrow she felt within her heart.

Now, she was able to take things as they came and let them pass.
They had genuinely loved each other once, and she didn't regret anything she did. But with the love gone, she saw no reason to keep sacrificing herself—not her efforts, her body, or her heart.
Megan, unwilling to argue further, turned to go back into the manor. But Howard grabbed her hand and called her name again.
"Megan, I told you. No one can take your place. Alyssa only has half a year to live. We can still be happy together once her time is up. You don't need to make a fuss. After half a year, everything will go back to how it was before." His voice came from behind her.
Exasperation almost made Megan laugh. Her position was crystal clear, yet he still believed she was simply creating a fuss? Why would she need to make a fuss?
