Chapter 1181
The coldness in Harold's eyes vanished the moment Maddie turned to look at him.
"What's wrong, Maddie?"
The shift was so swift that Maddie wondered if she had imagined it. Had her growing suspicion of her father made her see things?
Maddie shook her head. "It's nothing. I just want to tell you not to be late for dinner."
Harold smiled warmly. "Okay. Go on now."
Maddie turned away and pulled Xavier with her.
The moment they stepped out of the treatment room, Xavier subtly disentangled himself from her grip.
"I'll come find you later in the evening, and we'll head to the restaurant together," Maddie said, clearly aware that Xavier wasn't interested in her.
She, however, was interested in him. But right now, her mind was entirely consumed by her investigation into the truth. Thus, she was completely unfazed by his subtle attempts to avoid her.
Xavier nodded. "Alright."
The two parted ways at the end of the corridor, with Xavier heading in the opposite direction.
