Anna was able to pick Janet up easily because of how small and skinny the child was. With Janet in tow, Anna rounded the corner and kneeled down behind a row of bushes, keeping one hand clamped tightly over Janet's mouth.
Terence had been distracted cleaning up the area around the flowerbed. He had just thrown the trash into the bin when he heard Janet's surprised gasp.
He swiftly returned to the flowerbed and looked in the direction Janet had run off to, but it was completely empty.
He tidied up the rest of his things before turning around and taking his leave.
Anna only loosened her hold on Janet after Terence disappeared from her sight.
"Aunt Anna," Janet greeted her politely.
"Who the hell is your aunt? Don't call me that!" Anna rolled her eyes at Janet. "When did you reunite with your father?"
