Chapter 1640
Meryl went along with Janet's whims. The walk home would only take ten minutes, and Janet's wound had healed enough to handle that much.
As they passed by the newly renovated villa next door, bursts of gleeful laughter rang out through the reddish-brown gate, which was slightly ajar.
Janet immediately stopped in her tracks, turning to look at the gate. That voice sounded so familiar to her.
"Did our new neighbor move in already? It sounds like they've got kids too," Meryl remarked. "Maybe you'll have a new playmate soon, Janie!"
Janet still couldn't shake the feeling that the voice sounded familiar. She asked, "Should we go and say hello, Grandma?"
Meryl shook her head without hesitation. "Let's not. Your grandpa said we should take a gift when we visit, but we're empty-handed right now."
"Oh." Janet stole another glance through the narrow gap in the gate, vaguely spotting two blurry figures playing around.
Just as Meryl took Janet's hand to lead her away, a voice suddenly rang
