Their rift had never been about Xavier being busy.
"I mean, you can be angry about it. But you should say something right away. Don't bottle up your feelings," Xavier said.
Lily's heart skipped a beat. She could get angry about it?
"I'll pick you up from work tonight." Xavier glanced at his watch. There wasn't enough time.
He stood up and grabbed his suit jacket before walking toward the door.
"I'll bring you lunch at noon," Lily said as she watched him leave.
"Okay."
When they had first gotten married, Lily had wanted to bring Xavier lunch every day. But every time, he shut her down, refusing to let her bring it.
She had tried sneaking it in once, but the security guards at his company had stopped her and wouldn't let her in. When she asked Xavier for help, all she got was his cold reply. "Go home."
