Chapter 10
Serena's mind went blank with a deafening roar. She gripped the table for support and asked with difficulty, "Where did he go?"
Gloria replied calmly, "I have no idea. He's not family anymore, so why would he tell me?"
Tears suddenly streamed down Serena's face without warning.

Chase's plane touched down, and someone was already waiting for him at the airport with a large sign bearing his name in bold letters. It was very conspicuous.
Chase walked over quickly, smiling as he greeted the person who'd come to pick him up. "Hey, Ben."
Ben Woodward was one of his university roommates.
Chase had lived in dorms since he was young, and though no one taught him, he'd gradually learned how to navigate roommate relationships. When he put his mind to it, he could get along well with anyone.
Ben was one of Chase's good friends. He lived in a seaside town with pleasant weather, a low cost of living, and ocean views accessible by a simple bus ride.
