Chapter 22
The paperwork was signed and submitted, one copy kept on file by the clerk’s office.
As the last signature hit the page, the clerk gathered the documents and looked up.
“You’re now in the mandatory 30-day waiting period. Once that’s over, you’ll need to return to finalize the divorce. If you miss that appointment, the entire application will be voided and you'll have to start over.”
William didn’t respond. He just got up and walked out.
Elsie nodded politely and replied, “Got it, thank you.”
Outside the building, William was still standing near the entrance.
The moment he saw her come out, he said, in a flat tone, “I’ll give you a ride.”
“No need, I already called a car,” she said, giving her head a small shake before stepping past him.
She was halfway down the stairs when his voice called out behind her.
“Elsie.”
She turned around.
He was still on the steps, staring at her with that unreadable look in his eyes.
After a few moments, she asked, “If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
