Chapter 50
"Huh?"
The intern assistant looked totally lost.
Elsie took a deep breath, trying to stop William before he said anything more. She kept her tone as calm and steady as she could and said word by word,
"You should go now. I’ve got to retouch my makeup and keep filming. Please don’t waste everyone’s time."
William blinked with this overly concerned voice, "Well, Dr. Clarke, do you think my condition is curable?"
Elsie almost blurted, “Terminal illness. Just drop dead.”
But before she could answer, he added, "‘Cause if not, I might need a few more check-ups."
"...” She clenched her teeth and squeezed out, "There’s no such thing as a hundred percent incurable."
Not exactly the answer William wanted, but hey, not a total doom verdict either. Even a one percent chance was a chance.
She hadn’t meant it, but she said it—and now he wouldn’t let her take it back.
He knew when to stop. Elegant as ever, he stood up, clearly reluctant to leave.
She only ever talked to him nicely in front of others.
