Leslie was still a young woman, so she flushed with embarrassment at the jab.
Douglas's gruff attitude, oddly enough, amused her.
She actually liked this old guy's style-direct and to the point. If he had just shut Emily down like that, she could probably consider him on her side now.
Even Francis looked a bit awkward and shot Emily a quick look. "Emily, maybe talk to me later, all right?"
Unwilling as she was, Emily left with Daisy Morris. But instead of walking away, they hovered outside eavesdropping.
"Come on, let's just go," Daisy whispered sharply.
