Chapter 200
The room was silent, and the sound of a phone vibrating was especially clear.
Stephen picked up his phone and glanced at the screen. It was a call from Tessa.
His gaze darkened as he answered the call in a hoarse voice, "Hello, Tess."
On the other end of the line, Tessa's voice sounded worried when she heard his raspy tone. "What's wrong, Stephen? Did you encounter any danger on your way back?"
"No."
She didn't know what to say.
There was a brief silence.
She reported, "I've arrived. There was no danger on the road. It's very secluded here, and the woman who's taking care of me is very kind and thoughtful. Everything's fine."
But she couldn't see him. She missed him so much, and was worried about his safety. She didn't say that part.
She didn't want to be too emotional. This wasn't the time for her and Stephen to talk about love. He had very important things to handle, and all she needed to do was listen to him and stay put.
Stephen responded ambiguously with a faint hum.
