Chapter 3
I looked over, my gaze devoid of emotions. I found his request ridiculous and said, "Did you just tell me to apologize? Christopher, are you out of your mind?"
The next instant, I could feel Evelyn's arms around my waist tighten, hurting my wound.
I gasped from the pain and broke out in a cold sweat. So, I quickly pushed Evelyn away.
I didn't use much force, but Evelyn slammed into the cabinet.
"What are you doing?" Christopher pushed me away forcibly, and my forehead hit hard against the door frame, blood gushed out immediately.
He yelled, "I think you're the one who's lost your mind! Lyn has given in, and I've already explained to you. What else do you want? Apologize. If not, don't blame me for what's going to happen!"
I gritted my teeth as I swallowed all my grievances. Then, I enunciated every single word as I said, "That is impossible! Do you want me to apologize to your lover? Christopher, dream on!"
"How ungrateful!" Christopher was boiling with rage, and his eyes turned bloodshot. He swiftly carried Evelyn into the bedroom to rest.
When he left the room, he summoned all the maids in the villa. "Where is the chain? Bring it over. Mrs. Gardner is crazy. Make her kneel in the garden to clear her mind! She can't get up without my permission!"
My eyes reddened instantly as I stared at him in disbelief. "Christopher, are you insane? She's merely a mistress. How could you do this to me? I bought this house!"
"But I'm the man of the house." Christopher only shot me a cold look without saying another word.
The maids hastily dragged me out of the villa, leaving a trail of blood on the floor.
When the villa door slammed shut, a thunderous sound suddenly rang out, even when the sky was still clear. The next instant, rain started pouring down, and I was drenched in no time.
Kneeling in the rain, I could feel the wounds on my forehead and belly burning. My vision gradually became blurred.
I looked at the maid, who was keeping an eye on me by the side, and said feebly, "Let me go… Get Christopher here for me. Please…"
The maid glanced at me, as if she was watching a show. She stood under a roof, her expression full of mockery. "Don't waste your effort. I've seen this kind of pitiful act multiple times.
"Mr. Gardner has just called the private doctor, and he is busy taking care of Ms. Smith's wound right now."
Mustering all my strength, I looked up and vaguely saw the two figures on the balcony of the second floor. Then, my vision went dark, and I collapsed on the ground.
When I was barely conscious, I heard the maid call out anxiously, "Oh no! Ms. Sullivan passed out! There's blood on the floor. Get the doctor here to check on her. Quick!"
I heard familiar footsteps approaching, and an umbrella was held over my head.
Christopher's voice was exceptionally cold. "Have you done pretending? I would've thought you're the one who's pregnant. Wendy, it's time to tame your temper. This is for your own good."
As the sound of footsteps faded away, he and Evelyn hugged each other under the roof before they looked at me.
Evelyn fell into his embrace weakly, her voice laced with grievance. "Christopher, Wendy doesn't seem like she's pretending. Have we gone too far? She's your fiancée, after all. If the Sullivans find out about this…"
Christopher's face turned icy cold instantly. "I've been working hard for years. I don't need to consider the Sullivans. Besides, she was the one who threw a fit first.
"You'll only give birth in another eight months, and she can't be bullying you all the time. It's time for her to control her temper."
A smug look flickered in Evelyn's eyes, but it was soon replaced with an innocent expression. "I heard that people who get married through arranged marriage have no feelings for one another. Is it the same for you and Wendy?"
The heavy rain poured relentlessly, flushing down my pale face, over and over again.
