Chapter 9
My heart lurched into my throat.
Without a moment's hesitation, I sprinted after him towards the pack entrance.
As we approached, a thick throng of packrs had already gathered, their hushed whispers and horrified expressions hanging heavy in the air.
Through the sea of werewolves, I spotted my grandmother crumpled on the ground, her wails of grief tearing at my soul.
And then, my gaze fell upon the gruesome sight before me.
Lying starkly on the cold earth was a lifeless body.
My world tilted on its axis as I recognized the familiar features.
It was my father.
He had been disovered in the pack well, his body retrieved.
His skin was deathly pale, and there were strange, deep gashes around his neck, as if something with sharp, serrated claws had torn at him.
Under the alpha's command, several brave wolves carefully carried my father's body back home.
I supported my grandmother, her weight heavy against me, as we made our way back.
