Chapter 58

“Lucas!” Fiona rolled down the window and shouted from the back seat of the white car that had just passed them. Helen was sitting quietly beside her. Lucas clearly saw and heard her—he just ignored it completely. His gaze was ice-cold, even a bit eerie. "Fiona’s here, she’s calling you. Didn’t you hear her?" Claire said gently, trying to break the silence. Lucas didn’t say a word. No reaction whatsoever. Watching the car drive away, Fiona snapped. She yelled for them to stop, then swung the door open and ran after it. She chased after the car while dialing Lucas’s number again and again. She ran all the way out of the gates, screaming like crazy at the shrinking car in the distance. People passing by couldn’t help but glance over—she looked totally unhinged. Inside the car, Helen stayed seated. Neither urged the driver to move on nor went after Fiona. She just sat there, completely numb, like all the energy had drained from her. The distant sound of Fiona’s screams floated into the ca
