Chapter 6
Joshua strode over with a cold expression. When he saw Lexi lying on the ground, covered in injuries, a flicker of hesitation passed through his eyes.
Lexi clutched the two urns to her chest and looked at him with utter despair. "Joshua, they're already gone. Why won't you just leave them alone?"
Before Joshua could say anything, Melissa rushed forward, clutching his arm. "Joshua, this is all my fault. My dog got killed in the fireworks, and you told me to pick a burial spot.
"I thought it was just some abandoned grave. I never imagined it was Sebastian's and Sapphire's."
As she spoke, she stepped forward as if to help Lexi up from the ground. "Lexi, this is all on me. Please don't blame Joshua."
Lexi looked at Melissa, who was all fake sweetness, and her hatred nearly spilled over. "I do not need your fake concern."
Before Lexi could even touch her, Melissa suddenly stumbled backward. Just as she was about to fall into the mud, Joshua lunged forward and caught her in his arms, his expression dark as he turned toward Lexi.
"Lexi, Mel didn't mean any harm. Why are you attacking her like this?"
Lexi let out a cold laugh. "She's digging up graves to bury a dog, and you call that harmless?"
Melissa leaned into Joshua's arms, tears streaming down her face. "My dog isn't just some animal. It's my family, my baby."
Seeing her pitiful expression, Joshua's heart softened. He then looked at Lexi with icy eyes.
"It is just a burial plot. Your mother is already dead. It doesn't matter where she's buried. She won't even know."
Lexi lifted her head and stared at him in disbelief, unable to believe those words had come from his mouth. "What about Sebastian? He was your own flesh and blood."
Her voice cracked as she demanded.
Joshua did not even glance at the urns in her arms. His expression was completely indifferent. "As my son, he shouldn't be caught up in meaningless nonsense like this. It is just a burial plot."
He then turned to the workers nearby. "Since Mel wants this spot, let her have it."
Lexi stared at him in shock, her eyes bloodshot. "Joshua, you cannot do this to me."
She tried to rush forward, but in the next second, Joshua's soldiers forced her down to the ground.
"Joshua, what did my mother and Sebastian ever do wrong for you to treat them like this?" Her scream tore through the stormy sky, rain and tears mixing on her face until she could no longer tell which was which.
She did not know how she made it home. Once there, she came down with a high fever for several days before she could barely get out of bed.
Once she felt better, she got ready to go out and take care of her passport. Just as she reached the door, Melissa returned, arm linked with Joshua. Seeing Lexi, Melissa smiled sweetly and slipped her arm through hers.
"Lexi, there is a charity gala tonight. Joshua was specially invited to attend. Come with us."
Lexi hesitated, instinctively wanting to refuse, but Joshua grasped her hand firmly. "Mel is in a good mood. Don't ruin it for her."
Lexi did not want any more trouble before leaving, so she nodded and agreed. Before the gala, there was a charity auction with all items donated.
Lexi wasn't interested and wanted to leave, but Melissa grabbed her hand. "Lexi, are you sure you want to leave now? The next item should be very interesting to you."
Lexi froze slightly. Then, she heard the auctioneer's voice from the stage.
"Up next is a sacred relic, said to bring blessings and protection. The starting bid is one hundred thousand dollars."
When Lexi saw the relic, her expression changed instantly.
Melissa smiled and leaned in close, whispering into her ear, "Lexi, this was made using your mother's skull. Are you not curious to see who will end up buying it?"
