Stellan looked at me like he was begging. "You're just saying that because you're angry, right? You're the kindest person. How could you say something like that?"
It was the first time he'd ever shown me that expression. It reminded me of the look Joseph had worn when he showed me one of my old paintings and asked nervously whether I had a fiancé.
When Joseph put on that wronged look, it was almost endearing. But when Stellan did it, it made my skin crawl. I guessed that was the difference between loving someone and not loving them anymore.
So, I pushed his hand away without hesitation. "From the day you threatened my life to force me to sign the paperwork, there's been nothing left between us."
