Chapter 17

Lana's WhatsApp messages visibly reflected her anger. Lana: "Kylie Murphy! Answer the phone!" Lana: "Do you think I'll let this slide if you don't answer your phone?" Lana: "I order you to get back here immediately and apologize to your sister! How could I have a daughter as vicious as you? It wasn't enough for you to splash Lottie with hot soup once! You actually did it a second time!" Lana: "Do you think I won't be able to lay a hand on you because Isaac is at your back? "Do you even still think of me as your mother?" When she read through those messages, Kylie felt as if her heart was being ripped apart. She took a deep breath and put her phone away. … The next day, Kylie left the Grant residence early in the morning as she had to sign an agreement. Close to noon, two uninvited guests showed up at the residence. Lana smiled brightly at Rachel. "You're really looking better and better, Mrs. Grant Senior." In comparison, Rachel was calm. She smiled and asked, "Given your visit today, is something the matter?" Lana's smile immediately dropped, and she replied seriously, "I do indeed have something to speak to you about." She sighed heavily before continuing, "Kylie, she… She's really… gone overboard." Rachel arched an eyebrow. "Oh? What's wrong with Kylie?" "Lottie," called Lana. Charlotte looked at Lana in disapproval and shook her head slightly. "Mom! We shouldn't trouble Mrs. Grant Senior and Mrs. Grant with such trivial matters." "We've already reached this point, Lottie, so don't even think about covering for her anymore." After glaring crossly at Charlotte, Lana took her hand and led her to stand directly in front of Rachel and Margaret. "Take a look at this, Mrs. Grant Senior and Mrs. Grant," said Lana. "This is what that brat Kylie has done." Charlotte's hand was wrapped in layers upon layers of gauze, making it look like she was wearing a boxing glove. "What happened?" asked Margaret. Lana began to recount everything that happened at dinner yesterday while adding in her own embellishments. "Yesterday…" … After finishing her account of events, she sighed heavily and lamented, "What a vicious daughter I have, don't you agree? Her older sister treats her so well, yet she actually did this to Lottie! "She poured such hot soup on Lottie not once but twice! And she continued to remain unrepentant afterward, too. It also makes me feel terrible to see how arrogant and willful she's become." Charlotte quickly reached out to soothe her with an understanding look. "Don't be upset anymore, Mom. I think Kylie just acted impulsively because she was in a bad mood yesterday, but she's not actually a bad person." Lana looked helplessly at Rachel and Margaret. "Look. Kylie treated her like this, yet my silly daughter is still trying to speak up for her. Lottie's always been so naive, which is why she gets bullied by Kylie all the time." Margaret frowned heavily, her dissatisfaction toward Kylie increasing a little further. A vicious person like Kylie, who could be so cruel to her own sister, simply wasn't worthy of Isaac. Just as she was about to say something, the voice of the family butler—James Managhan—suddenly rang out. "You've returned, Mrs. Grant." "Mr. Managhan," Kylie greeted before walking into the living room. However, she stopped when she saw Lana and Charlotte sitting inside. As soon as Rachel saw Kylie, she smiled and waved. "You're back, Kylie. Come on over." Kylie smiled back before walking over to sit next to Rachel. The moment she sat down, Rachel reached out to stroke her head and said gently, "Your mother and sister are here, Kylie. They were just telling us about what happened at your dinner last night. Tell me what exactly happened last night in detail." When she first saw Lana and Charlotte, Kylie had already guessed they were here to complain about her, so she wasn't at all surprised by Rachel's words. Since Rachel had asked it of her, Kylie naturally had no intentions of hiding anything. So, she started narrating last night's events with great calm. "I very clearly felt Charlotte lift the bowl higher on purpose. It was her intention to knock the bowl over. I—" Before she could finish speaking, Lana interrupted her sharply, "That's nonsense! How could Lottie have deliberately wanted to burn herself? Why would she do that? "You're the one at fault, Kylie! Not only do you not know how to repent, but you're even single-mindedly trying to shift the blame to someone else! I… I'm utterly disappointed in you!" Charlotte also looked at Kylie with a hurt expression. "I-I just thought that you might have impulsively taken things out on me because you were in a bad mood, Kylie. I didn't think that you… that you'd actually… frame me like this. I—" Rachel cut her off before she could finish her tearful complaint. "Continue, Kylie." Charlotte stiffened slightly, the tears gathered in her eyes not quite spilling over just yet. Kylie continued, "That's what happened. Neither of my parents was willing to believe me, and Mom even thinks that I'm deliberately shirking responsibility. "I figured that since they both think I did it, I can't possibly take the blame for nothing! So, I filled a new bowl of soup and poured it over Charlotte's hand." After listening to Kylie's recounting of the events, Margaret had a rather interesting expression. She frowned heavily, expressing her rather significant dissatisfaction with Kylie's behavior. "Y-You… Even if that were the case, you still shouldn't burn your sister with soup on purpose again!" Rachel was silent for a moment, after which she turned to Margaret and instructed, "Write up a check of 200 thousand dollars for Mrs. Murphy later, Margaret." Margaret was baffled. "Huh?" Rachel reached out to touch the grey hairs on her own head and chuckled. "I've always told Kylie that if she ever suffers any grievance outside, she doesn't have to hold back and should just focus on getting revenge. She has me backing her no matter what! "Since she injured Ms. Murphy, we should naturally be the ones to cover her medical costs. As for the money left over, Ms. Murphy can just consider it compensation and use it to buy some supplements to soothe her nerves." Lana and Charlotte's expressions instantly changed upon hearing Rachel's words.
